Waves System Microplayer
Waves System Microplayer

Looking for a simple message player which is easy to program, provides great audio quality and is so small it will fit in the tightest of spaces? The solution might just be the Microplayer from Waves System, a French manufacturer of audio and video players.

In this video, we take alook at the Microplayer in more detail.

The Waves System Microplayer is one of our best selling digital audio players and it can be used for many different applications including:

• PA general alarm messages in schools, factories, and leisure facilities
• Looped playback of background music in commercial locations
• Interactive exhibition and museum displays
• Theme bars and entertainment venues, heritage railways and places of historic interest

Messages, background music, sounds and different effects can be played through a PA System. These can be triggered by a closing contact or PIR or you may want it for ad hoc general messages or pre-recorded emergency messages (NOT life safety).

Your WAV (44.1KHz 16bit) or MP3 (320kbps) audio files are stored on SD cards (Sandisk recommended) and played via the input on the front panel or via USB on the back. The Microplayer is programmed within a simple folder structure on an SD card – a detailed list of commands is included with the instruction manual and some examples are shown in the second half of our video.

There's a built-in amplifier which gives 2 x 10 watts output, to power two 8-ohm speakers to create a little standalone system - there’s a volume control on the front of the Microplayer which alters the volume level to the speakers. Also on the front, there are two buttons which can be programmed to start messages, stop messages and various other functions.

All the other input and output connections are on the back of the player:

• RS232 on phoenix connectors
• Four direct GPI input contacts which can used to start messages and can be expanded to 15 using an additional diode module
• Two direct GPO output contacts which can be used to switch external devices – rating up to 20v 500mA
• Speaker outputs for driving two 8-ohm speakers up to 10 watts each
• Line level output on stereo phonos
• USB input as an alternative to the SD card input on the front
• Headphone output (3.5mm) - useful for an interactive museum display with a pair of headphones.

An infrared remote control is supplied which allows you to start and stop files and alter the volume. It also includes 2 function keys which mimic the programmable buttons on the front of the unit.
