It is a power amplifier that receives its audio over a Dante network instead of only analogue cables. Multi-channel models with DSP are used in shopping centres, hotels, offices, universities and conference venues where many zones share one network.
A standard 100V amp needs a line-level cable from the mixer to each amplifier. A Dante amp takes its programme from the IT network, so routing, monitoring and extra zones are done in software. The speaker side is still 100V, 70V or low impedance — Dante does not replace the speaker cable.
No. Some are Dante-ready and need a card or module fitted. Others have Dante on board. Check the product page before you assume the chassis will appear in Dante Controller.
A wired Ethernet network, normally a gigabit switch that can carry Dante (QoS and, on larger systems, a dedicated audio VLAN). Wi-Fi is not a Dante path for amplifiers. The amplifier still needs mains power at the rack.
Many models in this range can be set per channel for 70/100V or 4/8 ohm. Do not put 100V speakers and low-impedance cabinets on the same channel. Set the mode before you connect the line.
The amplifier has a total power budget that can be split unevenly between channels, so a quiet zone uses less and a louder zone can use more, as long as the sum stays within the rating. On some amps this is automatic; on others you set a cap per output. It is flexible distribution, not extra free wattage.
Onboard DSP adds EQ, limiters, high-pass filters and sometimes routing inside the amp, so each zone can be tuned without a separate processor. You still need a Dante source — a mixer, matrix or DSP — to send the audio.
They can carry paging and background music on a commercial network. Certified voice-alarm systems need approved amplifiers, monitoring and EN54-24 speakers. Do not treat a general Dante amp as a life-safety amplifier unless the specification says it is approved for that role.
Dante latency is low and is set in the network (often 1 ms or a few milliseconds). It is not normally audible on BGM. Keep paging and background on a properly configured switch so the delay stays consistent.
