Dante Assistive Listening

Dante Assistive Listening

Dante assistive listening solutions are designed to make speech and programme audio clearer and more accessible for people with hearing loss, while integrating seamlessly into modern networked audio systems. By using Dante audio over IP, these products connect to existing Ethernet networks, simplifying installation and allowing assistive hearing systems to be managed alongside the rest of a building’s commercial audio infrastructure.

The selection includes Dante‑enabled induction loop amplifiers, multi‑loop drivers and networkable transmitters for assistive listening systems. They are commonly used in environments where speech intelligibility and accessibility are critical, such as theatres, cinemas, lecture halls, places of worship, council chambers, reception areas, ticket counters and retail service desks. In education and corporate spaces, they help ensure presentations, lectures and announcements can be clearly heard by all listeners.

Dante assistive listening products take audio directly from networked DSP mixers or microphones and distribute it without additional analogue wiring. Induction loop systems transmit audio wirelessly to hearing aids and cochlear implants fitted with a T‑coil, while newer broadcast audio solutions, such as AURI (which uses Bluetooth Low Energy transmission), can deliver digital audio streams to compatible receivers and personal devices. These systems are ideal for speech, paging, live microphones and line‑level programme audio, ensuring clean and intelligible sound with minimal latency.

With features such as rack‑mount designs, network control, scalable coverage and precise signal management, Dante assistive listening equipment supports both small rooms and large, complex venues.

For system designers and installers, these solutions provide a future‑proof, standards‑compliant approach to inclusive audio, helping organisations meet accessibility requirements while maintaining high‑quality networked sound control throughout the building.

FAQs

What is a Dante assistive listening system?

It takes speech or programme audio from a Dante network and sends it to a hearing loop, or to a digital assistive-listening transmitter, so people with hearing loss can hear more clearly. Typically used in Theatres, lecture halls, council chambers, worship spaces and service.

How is a Dante loop driver different from an analogue loop amplifier?

An analogue driver needs a line cable from the mixer. A Dante driver takes audio from the network, so it can sit with the other rack gear and be routed in Dante Controller. The loop cable in the floor or counter is still a conventional induction loop.

What is a multi-loop driver used for?

Large rooms and rooms with metal in the structure often need a phased array or multi-loop, not one simple perimeter loop. Dual-output Dante drivers feed those designs. A counter loop at a till is a much smaller job than a theatre.

What is a Dante assistive-listening transmitter if it is not a loop?

Some systems broadcast to body-worn receivers or personal devices instead of a T-coil. For example, the Auri-type transmitters in this range use Bluetooth Low Energy. They suit venues that want a receiver option as well as, or instead of, a loop.

Where should Dante assistive listening be specified?

Anywhere speech must be accessible and has a Network available to provide an audio feed: theatres, cinemas, lecture halls, places of worship, council chambers, reception desks, ticket counters and retail service points. Education and corporate rooms use it for presentations and announcements.

Does a Dante loop still need a loop cable?

Yes. Dante only replaces the audio feed to the amplifier. Coverage still depends on loop layout, metal loss and the amplifier current. Drivers in this range are sized by output current, from a few amps for a counter up to higher-current units for large rooms.

What standard should a hearing loop meet?

Induction loops are normally commissioned to IEC 60118-4 for field strength and frequency response. The UK Equality Act is why venues provide the system; the IEC standard is how the installer proves the loop works. A Dante feed does not remove that requirement.

Can the loop take paging, microphones and programme audio?

Yes. The Dante mixer routes the sources into the loop driver. Keep the feed speech-weighted and free of heavy background music if the point of the loop is intelligibility. Latency on a properly set Dante network is low enough for live speech.

Who can help specify a Dante assistive listening system?

Commercial Audio Solutions stocks Dante loop drivers and network assistive-listening transmitters from brands such as Ampetronic and Listen Technologies, and has Dante-trained staff. Call 01663 767888 or email sales@commercialaudiosolutions.com with the room size, whether you need a counter loop or a large-area loop, and if the audio feed is already on Dante.
